Plans were made nationwide to remember and celebrate the 80th anniversaries of the end of the Second World War in Europe (known as VE Day) on Thursday 8 May 2025 and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) on Friday 15th August 2025.

Stockport NVA Legacy made a specific request of schools in Stockport: since VE Day falls on a school day, and traditionally photographs of the original celebrations in 1945 feature children’s street parties, we invited schools in Stockport to join in the commemorations by holding a school ‘street party’, ideally at 2.00 pm onwards. This was supported by the Director of Education for Stockport and Stockport Armed Forces Community Organisation, who funded a short 2.5 minute video clip that gives a historical context to this event
